 The Oldsmobile 442 is a classic American muscle car, originally named for its configuration of a four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual transmission, and dual exhausts. While its exact specifications changed over the years, it was known for powerful engines, often a 455 cubic inch V8 in later models, and for its performance and styling. The 442 was a performance version of the Oldsmobile Cutlass and was eventually re-styled as a sporty trim package in its later years.  

 The 1971 Pontiac Firebird with the 455 cubic inch V8 engine was a powerful muscle car, available in the performance-focused Formula and standard Trans Am models, featuring the 455 HO (High Output) engine producing 335 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque in net ratings, offering strong acceleration with its shaker hood scoop and distinctive styling. These models represented the peak of the second-generation Firebird's performance before emissions regulations significantly impacted horsepower figures in following years, making them highly desirable.
